The little town of Rathdrum stands high on the western side of the beautiful Avonmore valley. Lying at the junction of several roads, it is a good base for exploring the county. The Avonmore and Avonbeg Rivers hold numerous small brown trout. Glenmalure valley is the largest glacier valley in the British Isles. Avondale House, once the home of Charles Parnell, is just 2km from Rathdrum. Other attractions nearby are Avoca (Ballykissangel country), the fabulous Glendalough and the Kilmacurragh Gardens.
