Glendalough, once the monastic capital of Europe, attracts up to 500,000 visitors annually. The ruins of the seven churches and the 6th century round tower owe their origins to St Kevin. There is a visitor centre which runs guided tours, exhibitions and audiovisual shows. The village of Laragh just down the road has a range of interesting gift shops, coffee shops and restaurants.
