The village of Blackwater is 20 miles north of one of Ireland’s major ferry ports, Rosslare. It is a busy little village with two shops, several public houses and an excellent Thai restaurant. Wexford Bay, with its stunning coastline, is less than two miles away and has been awarded a blue flag for its sandy beaches that stretch for 20 miles with nature trails and dunes as a backdrop, making this unique landscape a special area. The town of Wexford is charming, with its narrow winding streets, historical buildings and colourful harbour. Waterford, famous for its crystal ware, is close by and makes an interesting day out, or perhaps a round of golf at St. Helen’s with its stunning links could be enjoyed for those who like the outdoors. Less then two miles away is Wexford Bay which has twenty miles of breathtaking Blue Flag sandy beaches, sand dunes and nature trails. Another beach worth visiting is the southernmost stretch of beach at Curracloe. This beach has been voted 'The best beach in Ireland' and was used in the opening scene of the film Saving Private Ryan. The pretty town of Wexford is just eleven miles from Blackwater and has beautiful narrow winding streets and a gorgeous quayside which is lined with historical buildings. Also in the area is the St Helen's golf course and the wonderful city of Waterford. The capital of Ireland, Dublin is eighty miles away and offers many shops, pubs and attractions. Blackwater is an ideal base to explore the area, which has something for everyone. |
