The town of Miltown Malbay is located close to the Atlantic coast in County Clare, and is only an hour from Shannon Airport. Famed for its traditional Irish music, it is home to the Willie Clancy music festival, which is held in July, however visitors will find fabulous live music in many pubs and bars whatever the time of year. Miltown Malbay is close to some excellent beach resorts including Spanish Point and Doonbeg, both of which are well worth a visit for their relaxed vibe and great surf, not to mention their excellent golf courses. The Burren National Park to the north of the town is a mecca for walkers and nature lovers with its unique geological landscapes and rich colourful wildflowers. With a small population of around 240 residents, this rapidly developing tourist centre is home to a 15th Century Abbey, all year round fishing on the River Rine and an equestrian centre, with a number of stud farms in the area. Two miles from Quin is a 15th Century tower house, Knappogue Castle, which, having been beautifully restored, is open for public viewing between April and October, while medieval banquets are held in the main part of the castle between May and October.
