Situated 7.5 miles from Enniscorthy, the second largest town in County Wexford is Fems. The town established in the 6th century is steeped in history has many landmarks and historic buildings. One of the main attractions in Ferns today is the superb 13th century castle, only half of which is still standing but is still an impressive sight. The busy town of Enniscorthy, situated on the River Slaney has many amenities such as a cinema and leisure centre. The town also has a castle, cathedral and a popular greyhound racing track. A short drive away is the seaside resort of Courtown which consists of a lovely harbour, beach, shops, pubs and restaurants and the lovely Courtown Wood is ideal for a walk or cycle. There are also ten sandy beaches in the area, including the Blue Flag sandy beach at Curracloe. This part of County Wexford has something for everyone at any time of the year. |
