Reached via a causeway, the village is steeped in history and the surrounding region is full of castle ruins and forts. Today, this little town offers a selection of pubs, seafood restaurants, a supermarket, fishmongers, a post office, a bureau de change and the annual Union Hall Festival, held every June. Visitors are also able to hire a boat for a trip to the off shore islands, whilst the surrounding area also offers good walking opportunities. Skibbereen, a vibrant town, is approximately seven miles away and boasts a range of shops, restaurants and pubs, along with the fascinating West Cork Arts Centre and Skibbereen Heritage Centre.
